Notice about Matcha Supply Shortage and Revisions to Pricing
Notice of Price Revision – August 2025
Thank you for your continued support and trust in our matcha and Japanese tea products.
As you may have seen across the industry, Japan’s tea market is currently facing a historically severe supply shortage. This year, prices for handpicked Uji tencha—the raw material for our premium matcha—have surged over 216%, reaching an average of 43,330 JPY/kg. Meanwhile, shocha (machine-picked) tencha has seen an even sharper increase of 269%, now averaging 14,541 JPY/kg compared to last year.
The impact is being felt across the entire industry—from growers and producers to retailers and consumers. Due to aging tea farmers, labor shortages, and the long lead time required to develop high-quality tea fields (over five years), supply is expected to remain tight for the foreseeable future.
Despite these challenges, we’ve worked to minimize the effect on our customers through longstanding, direct relationships with tea producers. However, to ensure continued quality and sustainable sourcing, a price revision has become necessary.
Price Adjustment Overview:
-
Global Store (ships directly from Japan):
Prices will increase by 150%, still below the market average of 180%. -
U.S. Store (includes freight & import costs):
Prices will increase by 120–150%, depending on the product category.
This adjustment will allow us to continue sourcing authentic, shade-grown tencha from Japan while supporting the artisans and tea farms that make it possible.
We remain committed to transparency and quality, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support during this time of industry-wide transition.
